The Fisherman's Trail
A 226km coastal footpath starting north of us in Sines and in 13 stages heading all the way down the coast to Sagres on the southwestern tip of Europe, before turning east to Lagos.

Three stages of the hike are easily accessible and less than a 30 minute drive from Vale das Estrelas. Stay with us! Walk by day, then relax by the pool, try one of our Alentejo wines, have a slap-up meal and enjoy some star-gazing before retiring to one of our fabulous beds.

The Holiday part of a Walking Holiday
In the morning have a sumptuous breakfast and perhaps even take a packed lunch as you head back onto the trail for the next stage of the hike. Then return to the Valley of the Stars and enjoy a walking holiday which is also a holiday.
We can arrange pick-ups and drop offs at Vila Nova de Milfontes, Almograve, Zambujeira-do-Mar and Odeceixe...we know a few useful hacks for your hike and some secret beaches along the way.
The Rota Vicentina website is the place to plan your trip, but these three stages are in easy reach of us (and we can even get you down to Aljezur in just 45 minutes).

São Luís, Odemira, São Teotónio and Odeceixe are less than half an hour from Vale das Estrelas...and we can help you take transport or arrange pick-ups and drop-offs.
Leave your luggage at the lodge and walk lightweight, get wined and dined by us, and head off next day after breakfast with a full stomach and a fabulous infinity pool with a view to come back to at the end of your hike.

Distillery detour
There are some amazing restaurants in the area, the fabulous Vicentino Winery, and we can introduce you to the wines of Alentejo in a wine “story-tasting” journey through some of the history and culture of Portugal.
We can even recommend a detour which will take you to our friend Jorge’s door. He distils medronho spirit from the strawberry fruit tree and will happily show you around and give you a taste of his fully licensed firewater to help you on your way.

There are also a variety of circular routes for those wanting to end up where they started. All these trails, and downloadable maps, are available from the Rota Vicentina website which doubles as a local encyclopedia of outdoorsy activities, contacts, places to go, and things to see.
The trails can be reached within a 5min walk or a 15min drive from our house, depending on where you start. There are also circular walks of different lengths we recommend around the Valley of the Stars – we can give you a map and let you know who to say hello to!
