October 2025 Art Retreat with Ed Sumner
There was a full house for this 5 day, full-board painting retreat beneath the endless skies and golden light of Portugal’s Alentejo coast.
Renowned London-based artist Ed Sumner was the guest instructor bringing followers and friends of his Cheese & Wine Painting Club to the valley to be inspired by the landscapes the skies and the silence.

Ed's down-to-earth, joyful approach to teaching was a chance for participants to reconnect with their creative side in good company.
The Meals
As always at Vale das Estrelas, every meal was part of the experience — designed to nourish, inspire, and celebrate the region’s bounty.
Ana's ingredients are always fresh and seasonal (and Al sometimes helps with the grill because he likes to take the credit).
Locally sourced: the ingredients are all rooted in Alentejo. They are simple, soulful dishes with a regional touch
Relaxed and thoughtful: Served under the sun or stars or in the Clubhouse depending on the weather and group energy
Sumptuous breakfasts were served every morning
